Bonchurch Community News – Autumn 2024

Welcome to our latest update for residents and friends of Bonchurch! As the year winds down, we wanted to share what’s been happening in our village and highlight a few events still to come. From blooming gardens to festive gatherings, here’s a look at recent highlights and what’s ahead.

🌿 Open Gardens

Our Open Gardens weekend was once again a lovely success, thanks to the generosity of our wonderful neighbours. While numbers were slightly down from last year, we still raised an impressive amount, with half going to Ventnor charities. Huge thanks to everyone who helped, baked, planted, poured tea, and welcomed visitors into their gardens.

🪷 Bonchurch Pond

A heartfelt thank you goes to Richard, our tireless Pond Warden, who’s been busy all summer maintaining this special part of the village. From planting flower beds and urns to arranging the beautiful hanging baskets on Village Road, Richard—and all the volunteers who helped water—have kept the pond looking splendid.

🙋 Can You Help?

We’re looking for volunteers to lend a hand with village care and community events. Whether you have five minutes or a few hours, your help would make a difference! If you're interested, please contact us here. We’ll be happy to add you to a WhatsApp group for easy updates and event coordination.

🎺 Shanklin Brass Band at St Boniface

A beautiful evening of music was enjoyed by all at the September concert in St Boniface Church, with a special moment featuring three Bonchurch residents who picked up instruments thanks to last year’s event! Proceeds were shared between the Church, BCA, and Bonchurch Social Club.

☕ Bonchurch Social Club & Coffee Mornings

The Bonchurch Social Club now meets twice a month at Trinity Church Hall—first Mondays at 7:30pm and third Mondays at 3:30pm—with engaging guest speakers and a warm welcome for newcomers.

Meanwhile, coffee mornings continue on the second Tuesday of each month from 10am to noon at St Boniface Church. Come along for a cuppa and a chat. Representatives from Ventnor Town Council and IWCC also attend to hear any local concerns.

🍛 Curry Evening – Fully Booked!

Our popular Curry Night at Trinity Church Hall on 8th November is now fully booked. Thank you to everyone who signed up early!

✨ Christmas Lights at the Pond

Mark your calendars for Sunday 1st December at 5:00pm when we’ll be switching on the Christmas lights at the pond—a magical way to kick off the festive season.

🎄 Carols by the Pond

Join us on Saturday 14th December at 6:00pm for our annual Carols by the Pond, once again accompanied by the wonderful Shanklin Brass Band. Wrap up warm and come enjoy this heartwarming community tradition.

Thank you all for your ongoing support and spirit. Bonchurch truly shines because of its people.
