Frequently asked questions.
Where exactly is Bonchurch?
Nestled between Ventnor and Shanklin on the Isle of Wight’s sunny southern coast, Bonchurch is a little village with a big personality — think winding lanes, duck ponds, and a dash of Dickensian charm.
What’s the story behind Bonchurch?
We’ve got history galore! Bonchurch has been home to poets, painters, and Victorian dreamers. Charles Dickens even wrote part of David Copperfield here — proof that inspiration flows freely between the cliffs and the sea.
What sort of events do you hold?
From Carols by the Pond to our Spring Picnic, Open Gardens in summer, and the always-lively Bonchurch Social Club gatherings — we like to keep the calendar full of heart-warming happenings. Check the Events page for what’s coming up next and join the fun!
Can anyone join in?
Absolutely! Whether you live in the village or just fancy a visit, everyone’s welcome. Bring your curiosity, your neighbours, and maybe a slice of cake to share.
How do I get involved with the Bonchurch Community Association (BCA)?
We’re always happy to welcome new hands and ideas. Pop us a message through the Get Involved page, or come along to one of our events — someone will always point you in the right direction (probably over a cuppa or glass of fine drink).
How do I join the Bonchurch Social Club?
It’s wonderfully simple — just turn up at one of the open events and pay your membership in cash to the organisers. You’ll be part of the club before you can say “cheers!” If you also want to join the WhatsApp group, fill out our Get Involved form and check the appropriate box. We'll add you in no time.
Are there any local pubs or cafés nearby?
Indeed! Start with the characterful Bonchurch Inn — a proper local favourite known for its warm welcome and delicious Italian-inspired menu. For something lighter, head to the Pond Café for coffee, cake, and a spot of people-watching by the water.
Where can I park or catch the bus?
There’s limited street parking near the pond, plus two nearby car parks: Shore Road car park (PO38 1QA) and Viewpoint car park (PO38 1NU). The No. 3 bus between Ryde and Ventnor stops just a short stroll away — so you can let someone else tackle the island’s scenic hills. We also have a local bus No. 31 that runs between St. Lawrence and Bonchurch via Ventnor.
How can I stay up to date?
Follow us on Facebook or keep an eye on the Events and Blog pages. We promise only delightful updates — no spam, just scones.
